Emu Hill
The Emu Hill Project is a compact but strategically located gold prospect covering approximately 1.4 km² within the historically rich Coolgardie mining district of Western Australia.
This project encompasses the historic Mystery Mint gold mine, previously the subject of a development proposal by Croesus Mining NL in the early 1990s. At the time, an estimated 133,000 tonnes of ore were toll treated at the nearby Hannan South processing plant, highlighting the site’s established mineralisation and production potential.
Geology and Mineralisation
The Mystery Mint gold system lies at the northwest extent of the folded Coolgardie metagabbro belt, within a northwest-trending shear zone hosted in layered metagabbro. This 20-meter-wide shear zone cuts obliquely across the host rock, localizing gold within multiple parallel quartz veins rich in sulphide mineralisation (notably pyrite and pyrrhotite at depth).
Key features include:
- Shear-hosted quartz veins dipping 45°–55° northeast
- High sulphide content at depth
- Mineralised zone known to extend at least 150 meters below surface
- System remains open at depth, indicating strong potential for further discovery
Past and Recent Exploration
- In 1993, a mine extension proposal was submitted to pursue additional ore beneath the initial development zone.
- In 2018, Focus Minerals Ltd drilled three widely spaced RC holes at the site. Although these intersected:
- 1m @ 0.78 g/t Au from 47m
- 2m @ 0.38 g/t Au from 148m
…the drilling did not target known high-grade gold zones or downdip extensions, and the holes appear to have drilled areas already mined or peripheral to the main lode.
Exploration Potential
The downdip extension of the primary ore zone remains untested, as do possible offshoots and parallel structures associated with the original quartz vein system. These represent high-priority RC drilling targets, with the potential to define additional ounces in a historically producing environment.With a proven gold system, structural complexity, and underexplored depth potential, the Mystery Mint Project offers low-entry, high-impact exploration upside in a region known for its prolific gold endowment.
